Facial Expressions Tests
I’m sure you’ve probably heard the phrase “A picture’s worth a thousand words.” Well, when it comes to facial expressions, that’s absolutely true.
How many times have you been able to tell that something is wrong with someone before they’ve even said a thing to you? Or understand that even though someone is saying one thing they’re actually meaning something else. You’re reading their expressions, and that’s giving you information that their words aren’t. And for the most part you don’t even know you’re doing it!
This is an excellent skill to master because it lets you tell what’s really going on inside someone so you can connect to them in a strong way.
Here are a couple of cool facts:
1. Micro expressions, these split-second facial muscle changes, tell you that someone is either conscious or unconsciously hiding their true emotions.
2. Micro expressions are too quick to be picked up by your conscious mind so for the most part it’s your intuition that gives you this information.
3. Micro expressions are the same in all people, not matter where they come from or what language they speak.
4. Government agencies are developing a facial scanner that reads these micro expressions to use in places like embassies and airports.
5. Something as significant as health or divorce can be reasonably accurately predicted by studying micro expressions between couples.
Even though micro expressions are read for the most part on a sub-conscious level, you can train yourself to become consciously aware of them. Paul Ekman, a modern expert in this field, has a program on his website that can actually teach you to do this. You can sample this F.A.C.E. Training free by using the demo version of the program.
Then try this facial expressions test. It’s longer than Ekman’s demo so you can test out your skills with more tries. It may be harder than you think!
You can try this test, too. This one focuses on the eyes alone and deals with full expressions as opposed to micro ones, but it’s still worth trying out.
