Now THAT’s thinking at a whole new level
“What will they think of next?”
That’s a rather common phrase, but in this case, there’s a whole new meaning.
Mattel, the company that makes toys like Hot Wheels cars, has come out with a fantastic new game that literally works by using your mind.
You strap on a headband and clip a sensor to each earlobe. Then when you concentrate on something and focus your attention, a fan inside the game becomes activated which raises a small ball. By turning a knob right or left and adjusting your level of concentration you actually move the ball through an obstacle course. Amazing, don’t you think!
Mind Flex works with basic biofeedback principles. In a nutshell, here’s the science behind the game:
The sensors measure theta-wave activity in your brain; the waves are directly related to your level of focus and concentration. The sensors register the theta-wave activity, translate that activity into a signal, and transmit it as a radio frequency to the Mind Flex.
The more theta-wave activity there is, the faster the little fan in the unit will spin. The speed the fan spins at, and therefore moves the ball, is based on how hard you concentrate. The faster the fan spins, the higher the ball goes along the Z axis. Turn a dial and move the ball along the X and Y axis.
Take a look at how it works here:
And if you want to make sure this isn’t just a strange commercial, watch this kid. (He’s kind of annoying, sorry.)
If you’re interested in trying this game, it’s available from stores like Walmart in the U.S. It’ll cost you around $80.
If you buy one, let me know what your experiences are. I’d love to hear about them!
